Travel destination development: from Kazan to Riga and Jurmala!
A press conference was held on April 5, it was devoted to a discussion about potential of Latvia as a tourism destination.
Iveta Strupskaya, Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at Ministry of Economic Affairs of Latvian Republic, Head of LIAA (Tourism department in Ministry of Economic Affairs) Representative office in Russia, Andrey Larchenko, Head of AirBaltic Representative office in Russia and CIS, Sergey Ivanov, State Tourism Committee of the Republic of Tatarstan and Veronika Aktasheva, Strategic development Director at Kazan international airport participated in the event.
AirBaltic Airlines that opens regular flights from Kazan to Riga twice a week on April 27 was introduced to the journalists.
Officials expressed confidence that the flight will be in a great demand by residents of the Republic of Tatarstan and the nearest regions. Futhermore, the special importance of this flight was noted in the light of the friendly relations strengthening between the Republic of Tatarstan and the Republic of Latvia.
For instance, Iveta Strupskaya, Counsellor for Economic and Commercial Affairs at Ministry of Economic Affairs of Latvian Republic, mentioned: “This flight is very important for businessmen in our Republic as well as in the Republic of Tatarstan. Riga and Kazan now will be separated just by two hours of flight. I hope that other regions of Russia will follow our example, because Russia is a high priority market for Latvia in the field of tourism.We have a successful cooperation between our countries. Russia took the lead in the number of tourists coming to Latvia.”
Veronika Aktasheva, Strategic development Director of Kazan international airport, emphasized: “We have no doubt that this air traffic will trigger economic, cultural and business relations development between Tatarstan and Latvia, as well as will have a positive impact on tourism in both regions.”
The flight Riga – Kazan – Riga is an additional hub to get to Europe that will provide not only direct passenger flow, but also transfer passenger flow.
